About

A consultancy built around one platform and its users.

InterstellarBits works on Meteor.js applications, and only on Meteor.js applications.

Between 2014 and 2018, Meteor was one of the fastest ways to build a real product, and thousands of teams did — full-stack JavaScript, live data out of the box, one codebase from database to browser. Many of those products are still running, still earning, and still growing. What changed is everything around them: the original engineers moved on, the ecosystem thinned out, and the platform itself made a major transition with Meteor 3’s move from Fibers to async/await.

That combination — valuable apps, scarce expertise, a real but navigable upgrade path — is exactly the situation we exist for.

What we do

We assess production Meteor apps and give keep/upgrade/migrate recommendations backed by evidence. We run Meteor 3 migrations as streams of small, tested changes. We maintain and extend Meteor codebases that teams can no longer hire for. And when leaving Meteor is the right call, we plan and execute incremental strangler migrations that preserve the data layer and never bet the product on a rewrite.

What we believe

Software that earns money deserves engineering, not eulogies. A framework being past its hype cycle says nothing about whether the systems built on it should keep running — that is a business decision, and it deserves better inputs than fashion. Our job is to supply those inputs and then do the work, whichever direction it points.

InterstellarBits is a US-based consultancy. If you run a production Meteor application, we would like to hear about it.
